A HISTORICAL JOURNEY TO THE 75TH ANNIVERSARY OF ESTABLISHMENT OF THE STATE OF ISRAEL – A unique meeting with Konstanty Gebert!

The JCFA, the ELNET-Poland Foundation and Agora Publishing House have the honour to invite the participants of the Festival to a unique meeting.

Israel is celebrating its 75th anniversary, deeply divided internally as never before in its history, although at the same time, paradoxically, its external relations have never looked better. In his latest book “Peace with a view of the war. 75 years of Israel“*, Konstanty Gebert describes how this situation came about – he begins half a century before the state was established, with the birth of the Zionist movement, and its not-so-successful struggle to convince the Jews to return to the Land of Israel, he tells the story of why the UN approved the establishment in Palestine of two states: Jewish and Arab, and how the new state of Israel was proclaimed on 14 May 1948 and attacked by the armies of five Arab countries on that very day.

For a small country in Asia, Israel occupies a disproportionate amount of space in the minds of people around the world. Why is it so? Maybe since God’s promise to Abraham resulted in the emergence of Judaism and then also Christianity and Islam as derivative religions, Promised Land simply cannot be boring?

Too Promised Land is the first Polish-language podcast about Israel. Konstanty Gebert, the author, tells the story, describes the society, from the “multicoloured crowd” through diasporic identities to contemporary disputes on who is a Jew.

During the meeting at the Festival he will talk about the Polish roots of Israel together with a special guest – Patrycja Dołowy.

Those present at the meeting held at Jewish Culture Festival in Kraków will have a unique opportunity to take part in the recording of the latest episode made for the first time with the participation of the audience!

Too Promised Land Podcast has been made in cooperation with the ELNET Foundation, a non-governmental organization whose goal is to foster relations between Europe and Israel based on common needs and democratic values.
