On February 24, 2022, JCC Krakow, an institution devoted to rebuilding Jewish life after the Holocaust and communism transformed overnight into a full scale humanitarian aid center working to help Ukrainian refugees. Within weeks, the JCC had more than doubled in size and, working 7 days a week, has directly helped 250,000 refugees, providing food, housing and psychosocial services to 1,000 refugees a day. CEO Jonathan Ornstein will discuss how the JCC, led by its Holocaust Survivors made the decision to commit to do all it could to help Ukraine, mindful of the Polish Jewish community’s tragic fate during the Holocaust.
