Jarosław Kurski, led by: Agnieszka Dauksza
Jarosław Kurski has been reconstructing the truth about his family for years. The truth which was deliberately suppressed, distorted or omitted by others, including his beloved mother. The result of his research – which was surprising and full of turmoil – is the story of a family spread from Ukraine to Brazil, from the UK to Australia, to the very heart of Gdańsk, the author’s birthplace.
Jarosław Kurski – deputy editor-in-chief of Gazeta Wyborcza, originally from Gdańsk, holds a diploma in law. He was part of the oppositionist Young Poland Movement and arrested during Martial Law in Poland. Member of the Solidarność magazine, an underground newspaper for the Gdańsk region, the first issue of which was published in the Gdańsk Shipyards in August 1980. He worked for the Spanish press agency EFE and Tygodnik Gdański. He was also the spokesperson for Lech Wałęsa but resigned from his position in protest of the “war on top”. He published the book Wódz [The Chief], a political portrait of the head of “S” against the backdrop of the events of the time. Since 1991 he has been a journalist at Gazeta Wyborcza, and has been the newspaper’s deputy editor-in-chief since 2006. He has led political conversations in Polsat, TVP and TOK FM. Author of essays on Raymond Aron and a biography of Jan Nowak-Jeziorański. Officer of the Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta and Knight of the Order of the French Legion of Honor.
