30.06.2023 - 12:00 / JCC Krakow, 24 Miodowa St.

In 2022, in the series “Autobiografia Żydów Polskich” (“Autobiographies of Polish Jews”), two new volumes were published by the Jewish Studies Department of the Wrocław University.

We would like to invite you to a meeting with Prof. Magdalena Ruta and Dr. Marek Tuszewicki from the Institute of Jewish Studies of the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, who are Yiddish translators and editors of memoirs by classic Jewish writers. We will discuss the autobiographical novel Shloyme from Reb Chayim by Mendele Mocher Sforim, the plot of which is set in the mid 19th century in the towns of Slutsk (Lithuania/Belarus) and the reminiscences by I. L. Peretz in Foggy Years of Childhood which depicts a coming-of-age story of a Jewish boy in the fortress town of Zamość.

Meeting led by Karolina Koprowska

The series “Jews. Poland. Autobiographies” (ed. Joanna Degler) is being published as part of the project “The Canon of Memoirs of Polish Jews” which is led by Marcin Wodziński.
